Because some days you have put on the swim suit and sit in the water to cool off.
Also - I've never been so aware of carrying a black baby as a white woman in my whole life. How I wish we could get to the point where the color of skin doesn't matter.
JoJo loved the pool! He splashed and laughed and played with his feet. I was a little sad to watch these sweet babies walk around him while holding their momma's hands and knowing that he's not there yet. Hard to believe that we honestly thought spending

Hard to believe that we honestly thought spending the day at the pool would never happen - and just like that it did!! I'd like to think that we would have treasured the hours of sun and splashing and laughter before COVID19, but I know that today we treasured every single moment with our kids. We baked in the sun, sprayed sunblock like crazy and got as wet as we could. It was a super good day 🌞

I'm always aware of the looks we get in public when Sam, Isaiah or Penelope call us mom and dad -but I'm overly aware of it right now. Raising kids in today's world is scary, but raising bi-racial kids is adding a whole new level of worry. All we can do is raise them right, pray really hard, educate people kindly and spread love.

Thankful today for sunshine, laughter and the chao

Thankful today for sunshine, laughter and the chaos that my kiddos bring ♥️ It was a rough week getting JoJo used to online preschool and online therapies, more online medically appointments and more online therapy screenings.
It's also been super hard for me to have a nurse in our home all.day.long for JoJo. Its great that his insurance will pay for nursing care, but having another adult around all day long is super hard for this introvert!! JoJo is getting so much stronger and everyone who meets him is blown away at the difference between the paper info they had and the boy they are seeing through their computer screen! The boy who didn't do anything is now sitting by himself, rocking on all fours, bearing his weight on his legs and smiles/laughs/babbles all the time. The changes are astounding!

We are a month in with JoJo and I think we are all

We are a month in with JoJo and I think we are all settling into a routine. His feedings have been going so much better, and it's been 8 days since we replaced the last Mickey button!
We've had lots of telephone and video calls with specialists and are getting things lined up for him to go to a special preschool where he can get the therapies that he needs. His day nurse is great and I'm so thankful that we lucky enough to get a person who my kids can be comfortable with in our home.

His case is still in the very early stages - with lots of blank pages still to be filled in. I can't wait for the state to start to open back up so we can get medical and family info which will help us fill in the pieces of his young life.

This is foster care at the heart. Standing in the gap for parents, caring for their kids and fighting to get them everything that they need. Is it easy? No. It is b necessary? Yes. A thousand times yes.

Today wasn't a great day for JoJo, and sadly because he can't talk all he could do was cry.
We are waiting not so patiently for services to open back up because he needs to get in to see a GI surgeon, he needs to get started with PT and OT, and he needs a speech pathologist so he start on feeding therapy.

See those tiny feet? We ended up back in the ER with JoJo because he pulled out his Gtube again this morning! His day nurse couldn't get it back in, so back we went to the ER. Again.

The ER doctor had to widen his access hole in order to get the Gtube back in, and suggested that we get him into the GI office as soon as we can.
I felt so bad hearing him scream, but he settled as soon as they let me hold him again. My poor little guy 💔

One year ago I brought Princess AJ home. She was so tiny, so small and so beautiful. I've spent the last two days looking at all the pictures we took, reading over all her milestones and finally packing away all the little mementos that we kept 💕

We miss her so very much, and continue to pray that she's safe and loved with her grandmother. Sometimes foster placements come and go a little easier, but AJ took a large piece of our hearts with her.

At the ER with JoJo. His Mickey button for his Gtube popped out and since we've never replaced one we headed to the ER. 😳

JoJo was a rockstar until they had to actually put the new Mickey button in. It took three people to hold him down while they replaced it. Lots of screaming and tears from my little guy - and me.
Thankfully we had the replacement button and remembered to bring it with us. The GI will be happy because she wanted it replaced - we just thought one of the visiting nurses would do it.
Lesson learned - always remove the tray from the high chair before trying to pick him up. Sigh.

Every time we get a new #fostercare placement our world gets rocked a little. JoJo is such a sweet little boy who has been lost in the system. The last two weeks have been a blur of phone calls, video chats with doctors, visiting nurses and trying to get the medical supplies he needs.

Our kiddos are amazing! They roll with each new child who comes to our home and want to be as welcome as possible. They play games, offer toys and read books. They have been so patient while my time has been split between homeschool lessons and JoJo and I'm so thankful for that!! Sam and Isaiah have been looking through their life books and talking about adoption. Cuddles with JJ 💕

His backstory isn't stellar, and the more I learn the more my heart hurts see how lost in the system he was. Now we are playing catch up, hoping that once the government opens up schools and therapies again we can get him started.

The first two days he was with us he didn't want to be held at all....and now he cuddles in with his head on my shoulder and holds on tight 🥰

We are a few days in and getting settled as a fami

We are a few days in and getting settled as a family of eight again.
JoJo was dropped off Monday night with a feed pump, some cans of milk and one feed bag. No clothes. No toys. No notes or paperwork. We got a crash course in Mickey buttons, g tube feedings and that was it.

Monday night was really rough. Tuesday was a bit smoother and by today I think we are going to be okay. He's a sweet boy whose momma never got him services and the system is now trying to catch up, but it's going to take awhile.

He needs multiple therapies, specialists and help with basic functions. His list of medical needs is daunting when I read over it and the foster system and the health care system is so overwhelmed by #covid19 that it's going to take some time to get him the help he needs.

But our village is AMAZING!! We were missing the charger for his kangaroo feed pump and thanks to a friend of a friend on Facebook we had a charger dropped off. We've had clothing sent for him and prayers lifted for him. We realized that if we were still in our normal everyday lives with all.the.things we do, we wouldn't have said YES to him - and this little guy needs someone in his corner to fight for him.

So here we go again, fighting for a child who has no voice and doing everything we can to make sure he doesn't get lost in the system.

I'm a little overwhelmed by his needs, but he needs us and the foster care system is so overwhelmed with COVID19 that we couldn't say no.

Our family is growing by 2 little feet!! 💙 We are welcoming a 2.5 year old boy who needs a solid home and we are thankful to be that home for him.

He has more medical needs than we have handled before, but we feel confident that between our village and the nurses we can handle it. It's hard stepping into the unknown and standing in the gap while biological parents figure things out, but we feel called to do just that.

So the crib is back up in the boys room and we are waiting for the case worker to drop off the newest member of the Good clan.

Better listening.
No tantrums.
No hitting.

Of course she did try to dive head first off a small cliff while we were out exploring and would have spent hours swinging if we could have let her.

There is still so much I don't understand about how Penelope's brain functions, but every day that is a good day is worth celebrating 💕

Staring our third week of quarantine. I'll be honest, behaviors are getting out of hand and we are seriously missing therapies!! Kids with SPD and trauma thrive on routine, and being off of ours for this long has thrown both of them. Isaiah is getting more and more clingy, wondering what else is going to charge. Penelope's speech is regressing and her cognitive ability is not good right now. It's so hard to watch them take steps backwards when they were doing so well.

Each day we start new and each day we come a day closer to getting back to something normal - whatever that is. Hopefully therapies will be able to start up quickly.
